Got these recently from a guy who had them taken from the attic of his father. They are in new condition. Even after at least 40 years they aged very well.
I did change the crossover parts ( caps and resistors)
The chassis / exterior is constructed from chip board finished with a gloss black foil. There is some brazing inside tot prevent vibration of the chassis. There is a decent amount of dampening material in form of polyester fibers surrounding the woofer. The bass port is short, small and from cart board.
On the back there is a pair of wire terminals that als give acces to the crossover
The speakers look simpel, the woofer has a paper cone and foam surrounding. The foam feels fragile but is in good condition so no need tot change them.
The mid range is driven by a horn speaker, the tweeter is a little basic cone driver that performs surprisingly well. Both mid and high can be adjusted via a control at the front of speakers. As max volume gives the best result I think about shorting the control.
So the sound.. I have got them hooked up to a Technics SU 8088 from 1980 and as music source I use a Technics SL-q33 direct drive turntable with a epc-205c II Low output cartridge with ex stylus.
So the quali of the sound these units produce is above what you would expect from a 70’s designed speaker. They sound open, precise. The bass goes deep and is fast and dry. Good recordings sound fantastic, bad recording sound horrible, a audiophile type of sound reproduction. Worth every bit of the €150 they cost me including the recap.
They are high sensitive speakers so a less powerful amp could drive them. For my amp, halfway turned up the neighborhood is shaking.
